What is the difference between Motul C4 and Motul C2? ›

C4 is white colored lubricant for racing motorcycle chains: Speed and Endurance. Based on solid additives AW/EP. C2 is is colorless and sticky lubricant specifically designed to lubricate all chains of road bikes and karts.

Synthetic Oil Change Interval

As a general guideline, most synthetic oils can last longer than conventional oils, with intervals typically ranging from 7,500 to 10,000 miles.

Leave the chain for a minute to allow the lubrication to settle in. Then gently wipe the chain with a clean rag to remove any excess lubrication from the chain. It may seem like the more chain lubricant, the better, but any extra lube that is left over can attract dirt and grit onto your drivetrain.

You do not want to lubricate your motorcycle chain without it being cleaned, as removing dirt, mud, and other debris is a crucial step. So you will need a chain cleaner to start. Also, be sure you have chain lubricant or oil, and a chain wax to help protect the oil from wearing off quickly.

Normally every 100-150 miles or once a week if you are riding most days on pavement in dry conditions. If you are riding mostly in dry conditions on pavement, you probably don't need to clean your chain every time you lube it. Aim to clean your chain every two to three lubrication jobs.

Based on the amount of the SAPS content, C-grade oils can be low-SAPS and mid-SAPS. C1 and C4 are low-SAPS oils, while C2, C3, C5, and C6 are mid-SAPS oils. Low-SAPS oils have a lower level of ash content than mid-SAPS oils and are designed to meet the needs of sensitive after-treatment devices.

Both C3 & C4 are high HTHS (> 3.5 cP) with the C3 being mid-SAPS (SA < 0.8 %) and C4 being low-SAPS (< 0.5 %). But yes the big difference is the Noack Volatility with C3 < 13% and C4 < 11%.
