1 May 2024 marks a significant milestone for Poland and 9 other countries which joined the European Union exactly two decades ago. 🌍 Twenty years ago, Poland made a decisive step towards greater integration, cooperation, and shared prosperity by becoming a member of the European Union. This move has since opened doors to countless opportunities , fostering growth, and enabling us to contribute to and benefit from a united Europe.🇧🇪 Thirteen years back, my own path led me to Brussels— the city that symbolizes the heart of European collaboration—to work alongside the President of the European Parliament at the time, Jerzy Buzek. This experience not only enriched my professional life but also allowed me to witness first-hand the dynamics of European politics and the power of collaboration between member states.🎉 My career path has since transitioned into the private sector (#TeamLinklaters), but the values and aspirations that the EU stands for remain close to my heart. Here's to the spirit of unity, the shared ambitions, and the continued solidarity. Cheers to 20 years of Poland in the EU and to the many chapters yet to be written! 🥂

I realised this week that leaving the current book I am reading on my (office) desk may give some strange ideas. 😊 No, this is not a part of the curriculum as COO – it’s the easy, careless fun of Terry Pratchett.If, like for me, books are your sanctuary of leisure and re-balancing, here are some recommendations from the 40 titles I read last year: 🤖 AI and Human Essence: "Klara and the Sun" by Kazuo Ishiguro for a profound reflection on sentience, alongside "The Perfect Wife" by JP Delaney for action, crime and romance.🕵️♂️Crime/thriller: I cannot recommend the polish writer Remigiusz Mroz enough. Favourites: the "Behaviorist" series and the saga about successful female attorney Joanna Chylka, with its gripping "Final Appeal" now also available in English. Suspense par excellence.✨Masterful short stories: "Tales of the Bizarre" by Olga Tokarczuk if you are after goosebumps; and "Odette Toulemonde & Other Stories" by Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt for the warmth of love and nostalgy.🏡 Family drama but fun: Liane Moriarty's "Big Little Lies" and "Apples Never Fall" – for enjoyable, dynamic turns of events and great character build-up.🎓Fantasy: And for those who like their fiction with a dash of darkness, Naomi Novik's "Scholomance" series will have you under its spell.
